Gemini 2.0 Flash Update Summary

Overview

Updated all DSPex examples and documentation to use Gemini 2.0 Flash (google/gemini-2.0-flash-exp) as the default language model.

Changes Made

1. Example Files Updated

All example files in /examples/dspy/ now:

  • Check for GOOGLE_API_KEY or GEMINI_API_KEY environment variables
  • Configure Gemini 2.0 Flash as the default LM
  • Provide clear instructions when API key is missing
  • Fall back to mock mode without API key

2. Documentation Updated

  • README.md: Updated quick start examples to use Gemini

  • examples/dspy/README.md: Complete Gemini setup instructions

Setup Instructions

  1. Get a free API key at: https://makersuite.google.com/app/apikey

  2. Set the environment variable:

export GOOGLE_API_KEY=your-gemini-api-key
# or
export GEMINI_API_KEY=your-gemini-api-key
  1. Install Python dependencies:
pip install dspy-ai litellm msgpack google-generativeai
  1. Run any example:
mix run examples/dspy/00_dspy_mock_demo.exs

Compatibility

  • All existing DSPex functionality works with Gemini
